The Minimum Wages Act, of 1948 (the “Act”) is an Act of the Parliament of India enacted to ensure that all workers in India receive a minimum wage, regardless of the nature of their employment. The Act was enacted to provide a floor wage to protect the workers from exploitation and to ensure that they receive a decent wage. The Act applies to all employees in all industries and occupations, except a few such as agricultural workers, workers employed in the railways, air transport services, and certain other industries.
