The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) released the draft Indian Telecommunications 2022 Bill to regulate Internet-based OTT (Over-The-Top) telecom services. The draft Bill consolidates three separate acts which currently govern the telecommunication sector — the Indian Telegraph Act, 1885, Indian Wireless Telegraphy Act, 1933, and The Telegraph Wires (Unlawful Protection) Act, 1950. The Bill provides that the central government will have exclusive privilege over establishing telecommunication network and providing telecommunication services. The central government may issue a license for these activities to private persons. The key features of this acts are as follows; → Regulation of telecom-related activities → Assignment of Spectrum → Interception of communication → Temporary possession and standards → Identification and protection of users → Right of way → Functions of TRAI → Telecommunication Deelopment fund.
