The Constitution of India does not allow holding Indian citizenship and citizenship of a foreign country simultaneously. Based on the recommendation of the High Level committee on Indian Diaspora, the Government of India decided to grant Overseas Citizenship of India (OCI) commonly known as 'dual citizenship'. If more than one country recognizes you as a citizen, you have dual citizenship. The concept of dual nationality means that a person is a national of two countries at the same time. Each country has its own nationality laws based on its own policy.The Indian constitution does not have any provision regarding dual or multiple citizenships. Some of the requirements for dual citizenship include - Individuals who voluntarily seek citizenship of a foreign state, as per Articles 5, 6 and 8, will cease being Indian citizens.
